Tuesday, January 25, 2011

While the Mumbai University is finalising the new choice-based credits system (CBCS) that will be implemented from this academic year; the draft of guidelines will be uploaded on the MU’s official website. Students and other stakeholders can post their suggestions which will be taken into consideration before implementing the system. In the first year of its implementation of the credits system, grades and marks both will be awarded.
At a meeting with principals from affiliated colleges on Monday, university’s vice-chancellor, Rajan Welukar, also suggested forming a cluster for better understanding of the credits system.
To release the results of the university exams early, the Mumbai University would be introducing the optical marking system which will reduce the data entry time and will help in advancing the results by at least seven days. “The data entry takes seven days if done manually; the new OMR system will help reduce the time.
The OMR system can scan at least 150 answer sheets in a minute,” said the principal from a college in Vile Parle.
According to the principal, the VC announced that workshops will be conducted for the better understanding of the CBCS. “The VC has assured us that the CBCS will not increase the load on teachers. He gave us suggestions on how assignments can be given to students to ensure they are equally responsible in the new system.”
