Preparation Tips for CAT 2011

The CAT exam is one of the most difficult management entrance exams in within the country. From past so many years, more than 2 lakh aspirants prepare for taking admission into the prestigious IIM's and other top B-schools in India. Cracking CAT 2011 entrance exam is one of the most difficult management entrance exam within the globe.

CAT 2011 exam will be computer based. The question paper includes 60 queries, which are sub divided into these sections.

1. Quantitative Aptitude (mathematics),
2. Logical Reasoning(critical reasoning, decision making)
3. Verbal Ability(reading comprehensions, grammar and tenses).
4. Data Interpretation(data sufficiency)

Each of these sections consists of 20 different questions with no particular time limit within the sections. Overview

The Common Admission Test is scored using scientifically proven and internationally accepted techniques which ensure accuracy and fairness. This article explains the process and the reasons Prometric and the Indian Institutes of Management selected this scoring method. Requirements

In order to expand access to as many candidates as possible, the test design for the CAT must accommodate these requirements:

Fairness

Each submitted test must accurately reflect the performance of the candidate. No external factors, such as the date, time or location of the test, should impact the final score. All candidates must be compared against a common scale.

Convenience: The test must be administered across multiple testing locations, dates and times.

Security: Test content must be protected from exposure and theft.

What is The Eligibility Criteria For Common Admission Test (CAT) Entrance Exam

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Persons with Disability (PWD) category], of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The percentage obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case of the candidates being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the university/institution from where they have obtained bachelor’s degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by the IIMs by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree / equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirement and are awaiting results can also apply. Such candidates must produce a certificate from the Principal / Head of the Department/ Registrar / Director of the university / institution certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year / is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) based on latest available grades/marks.

City boy scores 99.83 percentile in Common Admission Test (CAT) MBA entrance exam 2010 The results, declared on January 12

LUDHIANA: City boy Amardeep Arora, a graduate from Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) Goa, has brought laurels to the city by bagging IIM calls in Common Admission Test (CAT) MBA entrance exam 2010. The results, declared on January 12, had Amardeep scoring 99.83 percentile to top the city. He has got calls from IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and IIM Ranchi. Many city students got more that 90 percentile in CAT 2010. And results from premier institutes like IIM Indore (IIM-I) and IIM Kozhikode (IIM-K) are awaited.

CAT 2010 was taken by 2.04 lakh aspirants at various test centres across India. The paper comprises three sections: verbal ability, logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude. CAT is the first stage in the selection process for various institutes offering MBA, others including group discussion and personal interview.

Taranjana Singh, a Thapar University Patiala graduate, who is a city resident, got a call from IIM Lucknow and IIM Bangalore. Parveen Mangla of University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET), got calls from IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and IIM Ranchi. Omesh Garg, who has graduated from Agriculture College of Punjab Agricultural University, and Yogesh Jindal, a UIET graduate, got calls from Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), a premier institute in rural management. The CAT is conducted every year by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
