National medical entrance test from 2013-14

MUMBAI: The Medical Council of India on Monday told the Bombay High Court that it will not implementthe National Eligibility cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for the academic year 2012-13 but from the following year. NEET is a single admission process to MBBS and post-graduate medical courses throughout the country. A division bench of Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud and Justice Amjad Sayed was hearing petitions filed by the state government, association of medical colleges ( AMC) and students, challenging MCIs notifications on December 21, 2010 and November 11, 2011, prescribing and finalising the syllabus for NEET.s advocate informed the court that on December 8, 2011, the Aurangabad bench has stayed the exams. She said three other high courts (Madras, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka) in the country have also stayed NEET. The Aurangabad bench is of the opinion that the syllabus is based on CBSE, she said. The MCI advocate submitted that NEET will not be implemented for the academic year 2012-13 but for 2013-14. The judges said in view of MCIs statement, students will not get stressed and all uncertainties will go. They will get enough time to prepare themselves, said Justice Chandrachud.

Advocate Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, appearing for some students, said, If they are not implementing it, the whole issue gets resolved. He urged the court to permit the directorate of medical education and research (DMER) to proceed with preparations for holding common entrance test. The judges directed MCI to put their statement in an affidavit and posted the hearing on December 21.

Common Entrance Test (MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2012) for admission to first year of Two years Full time AICTE approved MBA/ MMS/ PGDBM/ PGDM for the year 2012-2013 will now be conducted on March 11, 2012 by the Directorate of Technical Education Maharashtra State, 3 Mahapalika Marg, Post Box no 1967, Mumbai-400001 instead of earlier announced date. From 2013-2014, admission to the first year of the two year full time AICTE approved MBA/MMS/PGDBM/PGDM through CMAT( Common Management Admission Test) merit list conducted by AICTE.
Detailed notification: To be available on the website www.dte.org.in/mba in the month of January 2012.

Supreme Court directs Central Govt. to hold a Single Common Entrance Test (CET) for all Medical Courses

The Supreme Court today directed the Central Government to hold a single eligibility- cum-entrance examination for MBBS and post-graduate medical courses in the country from this academic session.

A Bench of justices, Mr R.V. Raveendran, and Mr A.K. Patnaik, passed the order, saying that it will also beapplicable for private medical colleges in the country.
The Bench asked the Government to hold the single common entrance test on a plea by Medical Council of India seeking to start a single eligibility-cum-entrance examination for MBBS and post-graduate Courses
Earlier, a panel set up by the health ministry to run the Medical Council of India ( MCI) had suggested that a common entrance exam would lessen the stress of the student.
