Eligibility for M.Sc in Microbiology from Pune University after B.Sc (chemistry, botany, zoology) from Dharwad University

Students studying in bsc second year cbz combination (chemistry,botany,zoology) from dharwad university.

1.is it possible to get admission for doing msc in microbiology in pune university?
2.do i have to give entance exam ?


Admission to the course is strictly on the basis of merit (Marks obtained in T. Y. B.Sc.) There is no separate entrance examination at present and as per the reservation policy of the University / Government of Maharashtra.


University’s central admission committee frames rules with regards to admission to M.Sc. (Microbiology). Guidelines concerning admission for 2001 - 2002 are not yet issued but some relevant information in this regard is as given below.
The University invites applications for M.Sc. admission after the declaration of the B.Sc. results of Pune university (usually late June / early July). The advertisement to this effect is placed in local dailies. The schedule of the declaration of the results of B.Sc. can be found out from the examination department of the University (Tel No. 020 565 0060, 5656061 Ext. 2031 / 2050). Application forms are made available from publication section (Tel. No. 020 565 0060, 5656061 Ext. 2134) of the university usually after declaration of the B.Sc. results.

Completed application forms are to be submitted
to the Head,
Department of Microbiology,
University of Pune, Pune 411007.

Admission to the course is strictly on the basis of merit (Marks obtained in T. Y. B.Sc.) There is no separate entrance examination at present and as per the reservation policy of the University / Government of Maharashtra.



M.Sc. Microbiology course is offered by three centers, viz.

1. Pune University,

2. Abasaheb Garware College, Pune and

3. Ahmednagar College, Ahmednagar,
admissions of which are centrally done by the Head, Department of Microbiology, Pune university.

Number of seats available at individual center are,

Pune University : 20,
Abasaheb Garware College : 20 and
Ahmednagar College : 16.

50% seats are reserved for backward class candidates and 10% seats are reserved for students not having B.Sc. from Pune University. (Usually 5-6 other University candidates are admitted every year, Two seats each at Pune University and Abasaheb Garware College and one at Ahmednagar College.) 30% seats from open and reserved category will be offered to girls, from the respective category.

Essential requirement for admission is B.Sc., Microbiology i.e. candidates should have studied ONLY Microbiology subject in third year of B.Sc. Applications from candidates having studied any other subject along with Microbiology in third year B.Sc. are not considered.

Few hostel seats are available to meritorious students and one is required to submit a separate application along with M.Sc. admission application. Application forms for hostel admission are available from the Publication Section of the university.
