JMET Exam Details (Courses, Eligibility, Pattern, Syllabus) For MBA

Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is an all-India entrance test conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to the 2-years full-time Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Management. Apart from IITs there are many institutes that accept JMET score. JMET is conducted every year by IITs on a rotational basis.

Courses

Several IITs offer various programmes for those who qualify the JMET test. Programmes at different IITs are listed below.

• Master of Management at IIT Bombay
• MBA with focus on Management Systems at IIT Delhi
• MBA with focus on Telecommunication Systems Management at IIT Delhi
• Master of Business Administration (MBA) at IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee.

Eligibility

• Eligibility conditions required by different IITs are different. However there are some common criteria among them.
• Candidates should have a first class Bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology or equivalent or first class Master’s degree in any field of Science.
• Candidates must have secured minimum 60% aggregate marks. In case of SC/ST/PH candidates there is a relaxation of 5% in marks.
• Candidates appearing for the final degree examination of the above said disciplines can also apply.
• Some institutes like IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur also allow students having Bachelor?s degree in Architecture/Pharmacy/Agriculture Engineering.
• Some institutes like IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee also allow students having first class Master’s degree or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized institution.

Examination Pattern

• JMET is an objective multiple choice type test of 3 hours duration.
• The test consists following sections: Verbal Communication, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation.
• There is negative marking for incorrect answers.
• Other than overall cut-off there is sectional cut-off in each of the four sections.
• JMET is only a qualifying examination. Apart from qualifying the test candidates have to apply separately to the institutes of their choice.
• After qualifying the written test, successful candidates are called for personal interviews by institutes concerned.

Syllabus

There is no defined syllabus for JMET as such. But the recent trends suggest that the paper consists of the following sections.

• Logical Reasoning
• Quantitative Ability
• Data Interpretation
