Crack Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) steps should come of help to CLAT aspirants

Sunday, July 03, 2011
It is always a unique experience to participate in such reality shows like the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and winning here gives you unparalleled satisfaction and rewards. I too have been participating since the last ten years, obviously not as a contestant but as a helping hand. Let me skim through all my experiences and make it a useful spread for you all.
CLAT and all important entrance exams for law (NLU-D, SET etc.) are very competitive now. Although the number is not as high as IIT-JEE but the density of competitive students is extremely high.

The following steps should come of help to CLAT aspirants:
1) One Min please - A final Check
In true sense the preparation should begin from this. Give a final check before you begin.
* Is this the best suited career for you?
* Is this what you wanted to do in life?

Those who begin without this are in high chances of getting out of the track or not able to give their best. If there is confusion, do take professional help of an able career counsellor. It will make you and your parents feel more confident. Consequently your involvement with cause will get enriched with the fullest desire to achieve success.

2) Eye for details
Before you plan, you must be fully and correctly informed. A plan without the information may force your basic plan to change frequently. Instead of depending on hearsay, make sure that your information is based on authentic sources.

The decision of the CLAT core committee as well as the National Law Schools determines the structure of CLAT. You may take a test on CLAT pattern to check the essentials. This will help to plan correctly. This test should be taken without any preparation. Collect relevant past year papers of different entrance tests. This will help you to optimize your time of preparation. Without the proper knowledge of the type of the questions that might come, you sail in the sea without a navigator.

After getting all necessary information, it is vital to choose the proper books, study materials and guides. Choosing your training institute also comes in this stage.

3) Down to Earth - A plain plan
Planning for the exam is a must only after you know your status, how much time is there at your disposal and what is required for the preparation. Although initially the plan might appear vague, it should be realistic and suited to your style of working. Keeping the basic plan intact, fine tune your plan according to the obstacles you face over the course of your preparation.

4) Enter - After the whistle goes
Implementation of your plan is the most time consuming and important part of your journey. Although the manner of preparation varies from person to person, I will talk about some general strategies.

General Knowledge
GK has broadly two types of questions: Static GK and current affairs.
Static GK relates to questions from the constitution, geography, history, science and general questions. A good year book and some good reference material should be sufficient for it. For current affairs one should keep maintaining a note of the important and relevant news per day.

Mathematics
is the easiest section, but those not good at maths need to provide proper time to this right from the beginning. Most of the questions are from arithmetic.

Legal Reasoning deals with your logical skills. Knowledge of law is not required. Try to enhance your logical skills and practice the tricky questions.

Logical reasoning tests your logic as well as comprehending ability. This also tests your rationality and argumentation powers. A good grasp over English helps. Therefore, you will require lots of practice apart from building a good logical mind.

English questions are similar to the school exams. Therefore it does not require lots of effort if your vocabulary and basics are good. Still, one requires to practice lots of tests before the big day.

5) The C-Day
Before the CLAT-day take loads of simulated tests on the exact CLAT pattern. This will make you feel confidant on the C-Day.
